Meet the StaffMaternal-Fetal MedicineAris Papageorghiou, MRCOGAris is a consultant in Obstetrics and Maternal-Fetal Medicine at St George’s Hospital NHS Trust with a special interest in medical disorders of pregnancy, fetal assessment and intrauterine /endoscopic fetal surgery. Aris trained at the University of Sheffield before working for over two years as a clinical research fellow under the supervision of Professor Kypros Nicolaides at the Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine at Kings College Hospital. He has dual sub-specialist accreditation in both Obstetrics and Maternal-Fetal medicine. His main academic interests include pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction and screening for chromosomal abnormalities with over 30 peer-reviewed publications. He is a scientific editor for the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a member of the scientific committee of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Basky Thilaganathan, MD, FRCOGConsultant and Director of Fetal Medicine at St George´s Hospital NHS Trust, with a special interest in prenatal diagnosis, pre-eclampsia and multiple pregnancy. Basky completed an Honours degree in Genetic Engineering, before graduating from Kings College Hospital School of Medicine. He subsequently completed his practical training and MD Thesis in Fetal Medicine under the supervision of Professor Kypros Nicolaides, also at Kings. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and holds the Academic position of Reader in Fetal Medicine at the University of London. He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications and is a member of the scientific committee of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Guy Thorpe-Beeston, MA, MD, FRCOGGuy graduated from Cambridge University in 1984 and sub specialised in Fetal Medicine under the supervision of Professor Kypros Nicolaides at King's College Hospital, obtaining his MD in 1991. He was appointed consultant in Fetal Medicine in 1996 at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, Guy was also the Obstetric Lead Clinician for 10 years. He has published extensively and now combines his knowledge of fetal medicine with practical obstetrics, having a particular interest in high risk pregnancies. Consultant GynaecologistKaren Jermy, MRCOGConsultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the East Surrey Hospital with a special interest in early pregnancy assessment and gynaecological ultrasound. Karen trained at King’s College Hospital Medical School before working for over two years as a clinical research fellow in the Early Pregnancy and Emergency Gynaecology Unit at St Georges Hospital. She has extensive experience in gynaecological ultrasound assessment of abnormal uterine bleeding (including hydrosonography), early pregnancy complications and ovarian cancer screening with several publications in this field. Consultant in Fetal CardiologyJohn Simpson, MD, FRCPJohn is a Consultant in Paediatric and Fetal Cardiology and Director of Paediatric Echocardiography at the Evelina Children’s Hospital. He trained in cardiology at Guy’s Hospital, London and at the University of California, San Francisco, USA. He has a particular interest in prenatal diagnosis and management of congenital heart disease, three-dimensional imaging of the heart and transoesophageal echocardiography. Consultant GeneticistsFrances Elmslie, MD, FRCPConsultant in Clinical Genetics at St George’s Hospital NHS Trust with a special interest in epilepsy, developmental brain malformations, prenatal diagnosis and cancer genetics. Frances trained at Bristol University Medical School, has an MD thesis on the genetics of epilepsy, and conducts ongoing research in this area. Tessa Homfray, MBBS, FRCPConsultant in Clinical Genetics at St George’s Hospital NHS Trust with over 15 years experience in developmental paediatrics, prenatal/pre-implantation diagnosis, cardiac and cancer genetics. Tessa qualified at St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School and is research active with over 30 publications in the field of clinical genetics. Sahar Mansour, BMBS, FRCPConsultant in Clinical Genetics at St Georges's Hospital NHS Trust with a special interest in dysmorphology, primary lymphoedema, prenatal diagnosis and cancer genetics. Sahar trained at Nottingham University Medical School and has an MSc in Medical Genetics from the Institute of Child Health, London. Meriel McEntagart, MD, MRCPIConsultant in Clinical Genetics at St George's Hospital NHS Trust covering adult, paeditaric, prenatal and cancer genetics with a special interest in the genetics of neurological disorders. Meriel trained in adult and paediatric medicine in Dublin (Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and National University of Ireland) and has an MD thesis on the genetics of Charcot-Marie-tooth disease.
